Inspired by the timeless presence of the Greek bust in Carlo Scarpa’s legendary House on the Grand Canal, *NU* by Didier Guillon is a bold reinterpretation of classical sculpture through a contemporary lens. This exclusive black marble piece embodies the tension and harmony between antiquity and modernity—between the restrained elegance of classical forms and the daring innovation of 21st-century art.
A dialogue between epochs, *NU* unites the minimalist rigor of Scarpa’s architecture with the sensual hyper-realism of Jeff Koons’ *Apollo Kithara*. It is both pure and insolent, architectural and human. Created in collaboration with artist Ella Marmi, the piece evolved from pencil sketches delicately rendered on the pages of the *New York Times*—Guillon’s favored canvas—charting the metamorphosis of the Mediterranean male form from organic to geometric.
This sculpture is conceived as a three-dimensional puzzle: every fragment is distinct, disassembled, and yet unified by the welded pectoral bones, forming the symbolic and structural heart of the bust. The resulting composition balances mass and movement, strength and subtlety, discipline and play.
More than a sculpture, NU is a metamorphosis of classical rigour into contemporary vitality, a singular masterpiece.
